Spring Break Envy

With so many friends, colleagues and clients headed to or on spring break right now, I can't help but be a bit envious. Sadly, I can't get away just now....but that doesn't mean I'm not thinking about it! In a previous post, I listed a few of my favorite sunny spots (see Sunshine Fix), and those still stand. (places you should go, too). But, in thinking about where I would like to go if I were on break for a week, I considered previous trips and identified a few I always want to visit. They involve a pool (and/or ocean), have great food, ambiance and a relaxing vibe in common.

Parrot Cay Cottage with a view.

Although it isn't a new resort, there's something magical about Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos. While I was there, I visited the very zen and casually elegant house of Donna Karan, and instantly understood why she chose this as her retreat. Things are simple, not overdone... and the cottages offer the most amazing unobstructed paths to and views of the ocean.

La Valencia pool at night.
There's a historic hotel in La Jolla, CA just outside of San Diego that always brings me to a total state of well-being. For 15 years, I've been popping into La Valencia for a bit of sun with ocean breezes, intimate nooks, the best Sunday brunch on the planet and the unique shopping nearby.

The private pool for the Tower Suites at Wynn is never loud or crowded.

Cabanas for cooling off and enjoying cocktail service at Wynn Tower Suites pool.
The Wynn Las Vegas is a wonderland of a property, but the true 'oasis' is the pool and adjacent cabanas associated with their Tower Suites. Book one, and you will understand. Completely serene and miles away from chaos on the strip. If you're seeking privacy and quiet along with the option for nightlife and pampering, this is the ultimate spot.

Sunset picnic with friends at Rosemary Beach
All of these places are fantastic, but perhaps the one I am longing for most is our very own abode on the Gulf Coast. I've always been a 30A/ SoWal frequenter, and so lucky to have married a man who just happens to own a fab condo with a knock-out view right down the road. From his T-shirt, you get the idea of the state of mind we're in when there. Fo us, nothing beats it.

What's your top choice for a spring break vacation?  Please share, as I'm always seeking the next place to explore and enjoy.
